AquaJax recognized as 501(c)(3) by IRS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 22, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – AquaJax received approval from the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The designation allows AquaJax to grow and brings significant advantages to the group.

“Being recognized as a non-profit organization will greatly help us move forward and advance our goal of bringing a world-class aquarium to Jacksonville,” said George Harrell, AquaJax founder and president. “Now anyone wishing to donate to our efforts can be assured it is tax-deductible.”

As a 501(c)(3), donors can write off the donations made to AquaJax as tax deductions, retroactive to the date the group formed in January 2014. The designation also allows AquaJax to apply for government and foundation grants.

AquaJax needs money to complete its funding efforts for a feasibility study. Harrell said the group intends to raise $50,000 by mid-February to complete the all-important study. “This is a critical step to complete before future fundraising for the design and building of the aquarium can commence,” said Harrell.

Harrell said 100 percent of donations go toward funding the feasibility study and other needs including upcoming fundraising events, promotional materials, community outreach, video development and general operating costs.
